Hotel Diamond

We stayed here for the first time on our most recent trip to Chico. It's a lovely hotel in the heart of downtown. It is a rebuilt version of the old building, which had once housed a hotel of this name, and the detail and care at recreating the style and decor of the early 20th century, inside and out, is excellent. It is classy, very clean, and comfortable. Service is great, and breakfast is available onsite, a continental breakfast during the week and a voucher towards brunch on the weekend. There is parking in the garage next door. It's a short, pleasant walk to anywhere in downtown or the university.

The only negative points are that the shower, which has no hand-held part (all too uncommon in the US, unfortunately) is not very strong so showering is not ideal, and they provide only liquid handwash, not actual soap (also an increasingly common problem).

This was my third time staying here and this was my least favorite trip. It's the smallest room I've had here. The furniture is all janky and majorly knicked up so much it looks like crap. The door on the cabinet where the refrigerator is located does not stay shut and the knob is loose. The pillows were so thick I could not sleep on them. I ended up sleeping on the hard decorative bed pillow.

When I checked in, the lovely gentleman at the front desk said the room they had for me was not ready so they were giving me another and nicer room. I'm wondering now what the first room was like.

The hotel charges insane prices for massages that one would find in a big city. They also charge if you want an early or late checkout. I've never heard of such a thing in all my years of traveling around the world.

Restaurant and bar are separate owners. We were here for a Valentine's Day event in Chico and only had cocktails in the bar, which the hotel provided two $15.00 vouchers. Each cocktail was $15.00 - very pricy for Chico.

Both bar and hotel staff are very friendly. The Hotel Diamond needs a come to Jesus moment and realize Chico is not a big city and price gouging is not very welcoming. We will stay in an Airbnb next time.

The bed is super hard and the "queen" is more like a full size. Terrible water pressure. Took 6-7 min for hot water to start. Strong acetone smell in lobby and on 2nd floor.
Had a view of parking garage and it was quiet at night.
We had vouchers for food at The Grill downstairs so I went there twice for breakfast which was absolutely delicious and the best part about staying here. I will say the decor in the lobby is cute and it looks like a nice place. But the bed really took them down a few stars since I'm mainly here to sleep and I couldn't do that very well. Service is friendly. Won't return.

Great hotel. Very quaint and the staff is very helpful and friendly. I haven't been there since the restaurant opened so I can't comment on that. I'm sure it is good though.

The restaurant was exceptional - beautiful; in an old hotel, upstairs. They have an elevator!
Wait staff were efficient, courteous, kind and responsive.
The salads were AMAZING! I hope to stop in for more, when we return and would LOVE to have dinner there.
Just SO WELL DONE!

Great place to stay. Clean nice staff great bar and restaurant!! Turn key deal walking distance from a ton of other things to do!!

www.chico-indie.com was elated to stay and from its all weekend at Halloween!!! The Staff are 5 Star! We look forward to next season at The Diamond of Chico.

Fantastic hotel and everyone at the hotel couldn't be nicer. I'm use to very fancy hotels and the service and product here excellent. Especially the staff! Will come back next time I visit family in Chico!

I almost never give 5 star reviews, but I really have (almost) nothing negative to say or that I would change about my stay at Hotel Diamond this past weekend! Although, I didn't experience EVERyTHING the hotel has to offer (we didn't go to the bar or eat at the restaurant) everything we did experience was wonderful!
Starting with the front desk staff (two young ladies on the evening of Saturday, Nov.) they were extremely friendly and offered up suggestions for places to grab breakfast the next morning).
The hotel itself is clean and well decorated for the holidays! It's location is perfect if you plan on spending time in Downtown Chico. I've seen some yelpers complain about noise, but what do you expect when you're staying downtown in a college town?
Our room was very nice (deluxe king room, I think). Very spacious, included a mini fridge with two complimentary water bottles inside, complimentary candy and nuts from Chico, and pretty much every other accommodation you would expect I. A nice hotel! If I had to criticize, I would say the bed was hard for my liking (not the best hotel bed I've ever slept in).
Would highly recommend this hotel for anyone staying in Chico and hope to stay there again in the future!

This place is first class. If you travel to Chico, don't miss seeing the woodworking in the rooms and all around the hotel. The craftsmanship is amazing!
