Terrible meal, steak was full of fat and very tough. Asked for 1/2 litre of house wine and they charged for a bottle. Only interested in ripping off tourists. There were also the owners children and their friends (6 children ) shouting and playing youtube videos loudly, not what you expect in an expensive restaurant. They offered a limoncello for the terrible meal and charged us €186 !!! Refused the limoncello. DO NOT GO HERE

Came here for lunch... just stumbled upon this place while walking through Volterra. The food was AMAZING! We had Pappardelle al Tartufo and Ribollita (a Tuscan soup). The food was fantastic and the service was good. Our server gave us a glass of wine that wasn't house wine by the glass which we loved because they only serve house. Y the glass. Would definitely come again!!!

We were in Volterra for two nights and went here for both dinners. The seating outside is on a well traveled street with lots of people watching. It seemed to be a local favorite as we saw several families and recognized others there both nights. We only had light snacks after big lunches, but they were very good.
Street musicians played for us both evenings and there was no pressure to move on because we were taking up space drinking wine and nibbling various small dishes.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0 - Chuck D.Durham, Stati Uniti0328 nov 2016
We had an incredible meal at La Taverna Della Terra di Mezzo in Volterra. We saw their menu as we walked around town and it looked really good. The restaurant wasn't in the Rick Steves' book, however, and TripAdvisor reviews were mixed. We decided to take a chance.
The restaurant is across the street from the Museum of Torture. We got a bit nervous as we were taken down the stairs into the rock-walled basement with a suit of armor in the corner and were seated in a small, gated alcove.
Then the food started coming. It turned out that there is a fairly new Executive Chef that previously worked at 2-star and 3-star Michelin restaurants and with Gordon Ramsey. He was brought in to upgrade the restaurant, and this is still a work in progress, so the prices are still very reasonable.
My appetizer was a "13 minute egg" with asparagus, caviar and white truffles. Susan's appetizer was a really great regional vegetable soup. My main dish was wild boar with a parmesan crust and caramelized grapes. Susan had risotto with goat cheese, white truffles and coffee powder. "Chef" came down to the dungeon and checked in with us several times during our meal.
We were full, but were possibly going to share a dessert. "Chef" recommended a sampler of three desserts, however, so who were we to argue? We knew we were in trouble when the server brought a separate table for the desserts.Helpful 0Thanks 0Love this 0Oh no 0
